The April in-person meeting for Braver Angels of Tennessee will be in Nashville at the Otter Creek Church in West End. Knoxville regulars please take note! Nashville folks--this is your chance to get together with other BA members in your area!
We will also be starting at 6:15 Eastern / 5:15 Central this month, since the building is not open until 5pm Central and we will need 15 minutes to setup.
See you there!
This month we have more special guests joining us to share their expertise! Beth Marlow and Doug Teschner, authors of the book Beyond the Politics of Contempt: Practical Steps to Build Positive Relationships in Divided Times, will be leading a discussion and Q&A session based on their research and experiences with depolarization.
Beth and Doug are both longtime volunteers with Braver Angels and have a wealth of information about the history of the organization, its programs, successes, and challenges. Even if you haven't read the book, you should still come with any questions you have about Braver Angels, polarization, and how to communicate with friends and family who disagree on politics.
You can buy the book on their website.
This study guide will give you ideas for questions and topics.
The trailer video gives you a short introduction from the authors.
While America seems more divided than ever, the new award-winning book Beyond the Politics of Contempt: Practical Steps to Build Positive Relationships in Divided Times (beyondthepoliticsofcontempt.com) provides a hopeful roadmap for Americans trying to make sense of this dark moment and finding better ways to engage with family and friends with different ideas about politics.
We offer a path forward with practical steps to overcome growing political distrust. We tell personal stories and useful ways to better our lives, our relationships, and our country. The goal is to transform the politics of fear and contempt into the politics of hope.
The book received a Literary Titan Award for “exceptional quality in writing, research, and presentation” and transforming “complex topics into accessible and compelling narratives that captivate readers and enhance our understanding.”
