"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
The 2nd Amendment has been a focal point of our political polarization for many years. Traditionally, Reds have been strong supporters of expansive 2nd amendment rights, while Blues tend to emphasize the "well regulated" part and the fact that countries without so many guns tend to have a lot less mass shootings.
Recent events have caused a lot of Blues to rethink the 2nd amendment, and many Reds to argue against things they previously supported, like our right to bring guns to a protest.
Have the events of Minneapolis brought us together in our understanding of the need for a right to bear arms? Have we switched sides on this issue? Or do these rights exist only for some people and not others?
This month, let's reconsider our positions on the second amendment and talk about the drastic changes in gun rights rhetoric we've seen in the last few weeks.
